Giving Seniors a Voice : because being heard matters at any age
As the years go by, social connections change and sometimes distance settles in. For many seniors, having a space where they can truly be heard is essential to their well-being. A thoughtful conversation can spark memories, ease worries, and bring back a sense of belonging. That’s why the RPA Project – Giving Voice Back to Seniors was created: to multiply opportunities for seniors’ voices to be heard, recognized, and valued, no matter where they live.
The importance of listening spaces in everyday life
At Tel-Aide Montréal, we know that being listened to does you good. And we believe that this kind of listening should be available to everyone, at every stage of life.
With the RPA Project, we bring more than 50 years of expertise in active listening to seniors across different settings: private residences, associations, community organizations, and other meeting places. Our goal is to build trust between seniors, their living environments, and Tel-Aide Montréal, offering a reliable, human resource anchored in their daily lives.
Strengthening our presence through partnerships
With the support of our current and future partners, we aim to reach even more seniors and expand our presence in the places that matter to them.
Concrete actions of the RPA Project
- Equip staff and caregivers to better identify listening needs among their clientele.
- Meet seniors where they are to build trusting relationships.
- Distribute simple, easy-to-spot materials (magnets, stickers, etc.) to make our 24/7 listening line more accessible.
- Invite seniors to volunteer, so their voices and experience are recognized and valued
Recognized by the Maison de l’Innovation sociale, this project seeks both to prevent distress and to foster seniors’ autonomy. By listening to them and involving them, we strengthen their sense of belonging and their active role in the community.
